The Home Builders Association (HBA) of Greater Austin is in search of a dynamic, organized, and self-motivated individual with a proven track record in meeting/event planning and program development. The Director of Events & Programs will be a key player in advancing our mission and vision, taking charge of planning, executing, and enhancing all aspects of meetings, events, and educational programs. Reporting directly to the CEO, the ideal candidate will work collaboratively across departments to elevate existing and introduce new events and programs that engage and enrich HBA members.
Accountability: The Director of Events & Programs reports to the CEO.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Meeting & Program Management:
Plan and execute all aspects of trade association meetings, conferences, and events.
Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure seamless event logistics.
Develop and manage budgets, negotiate contracts, and oversee on-site execution.
Meeting & Program Development:
Design and implement a comprehensive education and event strategy (including online education and sponsorships) aligned with the association's goals.
Develop annual calendar of all association educational events ensuring programs are offered. Provide and manage the content of relevant portions of the HBA’s calendars and website. Coordinate with the Director of Communications for relevant promotions, communications, and marketing materials.
Identify industry trends and member needs to develop relevant and engaging events, education programs, and effective marketing through sponsorships.
Oversee the creation of educational content, including workshops, webinars, and training sessions.
Facilitate and manage volunteer planning committees and councils as assigned.
Work closely with the membership team to enhance member engagement through events and educational programs.
Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop content that adds value to members' professional development.
Work in partnership with volunteer members to execute events and programs.
Build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners, sponsors, and stakeholders to deliver innovative programs and memorable events.
Collaborate with committees and task forces to gather input and ensure alignment with member needs.
Evaluation and Reporting:
Implement metrics and assessment tools to evaluate the success of meetings and education programs.
Generate regular reports to assess program effectiveness and make data-driven improvements.
Prepare and submit written and oral reports as required for Board of Directors, Council and Committee meetings, annual reports, and other HBA needs.
Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Bachelor’s Degree (or at least 5 years of related work experience)
3+ years of event planning and meeting management is preferred.
Superb organizational abilities and time management skills to consistently execute and meet deadlines.
Proactively interprets relevant insights and/or data points and recommends pathways to improve member programming.
Self-starter with self-confidence and a strong eye for detail.
Excellent customer service skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers and staff members.
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs. Experience at a trade or professional association is preferred but not required.
Experience in using an Association Management System such as Atlas, MC Trade, or Weblink is preferred but not required.
Homebuilding industry experience is not required.
CAE, CMP designation a plus.
Driver’s license and reliable means of transportation
Work Hours & Location The HBA of Greater Austin office is based in north-central Austin. A successful candidate must live in the Central Texas area with the ability to work at the HBA office.
Office environment with local meetings at various locations in the Austin metroplex.
Occasional travel to state and national meetings.
Office Hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.
May require working some early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Working remotely is an option for candidates after the first 90 days of employment.
