The American Association for Justice (AAJ®) is seeking an Accounts Payable and Payroll Manager for its Finance department. AAJ works to preserve the constitutional right to trial by jury and to make sure people have a fair chance to seek justice when they are injured by the negligence or misconduct of others—even when it means taking on the most powerful corporations.
The Accounts Payable and Payroll Manager is responsible for certain accounting matters related to accounts payable management, payroll review and backup, and related accounting matters for AAJ and its affiliates. This position will also support efforts to identify and establish new processes, protocols, and systems, and maintain if not create appropriate process documentation. In this role, the Accounts Payable and Payroll Manager must be able to apply knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Job duties include:
• Review payroll and serve as backup to payroll processing. • Manage automated accounts payable process in MineralTree. • Supervise the work of the Accounts Payable & Payroll Accountant. • Administer and support the automated preparation of employee expense reports in ExpenseWire based on monthly corporate card usage. • Verify employee and board member expense reports are accurate, reasonable and within policy guidelines. • Reconcile staff credit card statements each month; track and follow-up on unsubmitted reports monthly via ExpenseWire. Report delinquencies in excess of 60 days to CFO. • Support annual financial audit of AAJ 401(k) Plan and related 5500 filings. • Support annual financial audit of AAJ and Affiliates. • Manage AAJ’s sales and use tax compliance process. • Submit required bank wires for approval by the CFO. • Monitor and recommend changes to AAJ internal controls within Mineral Tree over invoice and payment approval limitations as appropriate. • Identify and recommends business solutions that will improve or streamline processes and enhance customer service. • Perform ad-hoc projects as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred but not required. • Minimum of 7 years full-cycle experience with payroll and accounts payable. • Knowledge of general accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and account reconciliations. • Proficiency with entire Microsoft Office Suite with preferred Intermediate Excel skills. • Experience with data manipulation and conducting analysis using Microsoft Excel. • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics-GP or Sage Intacct, Paycom and MineralTree preferred. • Prior supervisory experience and the ability to multi-task. • Ability to prioritize, work independently, with a team, and meet deadlines. • Strong written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills. • Must be detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
