WHO WE ARE: For more than 100 years the Texas State Florists' Association (TSFA or the Association) has served all branches of the floral industry; including retailers, wholesalers, growers, manufacturers, brokers, shippers, importers, interior plantscapers and more. Our diverse membership also includes students, retired florists, university professors and researchers. TSFA represents and serves the floral industry in Texas and throughout the U.S.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: Reporting to the Board of Directors, the association seeks a strong leader who is responsible for growing and sustaining the reputation, influence, membership, and financial soundness of the organization, and overseeing the implementation of all policies and actions under the direction of the Board of Directors. Serving as chief staff officer, the Executive Director is also responsible for the execution and administration of services, programs, products, events, and operations of the Association statewide and nationally.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
Oversee Texas floral events, activities and statewide continuing education programs including on-site management.
Governance oversight including a 501(c)3 nonprofit and membership operations
Oversees all financial activities including but not limited to preparing and monitoring annual budget; reviewing all accounting reports and monthly financials; preparing and submitting grant proposals.
Develops strategic initiatives and identifies opportunities for growth and improvement in member services, attraction and retention.
Sustain and build on existing relationships, partnerships, and collaborations with internal and external parties including, but not limited to, members, industry segments, board of directors, statewide regulatory agencies, committees, etc.
Lead the decision-making process regarding operational policies and objectives to ensure the long-term effectiveness of the organization
Represent the Association at state and national conventions, conferences, and seminars.
Manage human resources along with administrative/office management needs ensuring Board of Directors and staff are consulted and informed of ongoing association strategic planning, state of programs, fiscal status, etc.
Works with independent contractors to ensure they understand their roles and TSFA’s needs are met.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business Administration or equivalent life experience.
5+ years of experience of leading an organization or senior leadership and working in tandem with a Board of Directors
Experience within the floral industry is a plus
Experience working with a Board of Directors
Previous experience with fiscal accountability
Balance and Income Statements, cash flow, planning and adhering to budgets, Tax Returns, Audits and compliance
Knowledge of 501(c)6 and 501(c)3
Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
Strong work ethic with a passion for the organization’s mission along with ability to represent and publicly speak on behalf of the Association
Fundraising experience with excellent donor relation skills and an understanding of those that financially support the organization
Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies and volunteers
Knowledge of the various social media platforms
Travel required – approximately 35 staff travel days per year within Texas and throughout the country
TRANSITION: The transition will be as determined by the TSFA Board. The Executive Director will be aided in the transition by the outgoing director, in an advisory role.
