The Health Industry Distributors Association (HIDA) is the trade association representing medical products distributors. HIDA members deliver essential medical products such as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the nation’s hospitals, nursing homes, laboratories, home care, and physician practices.
Established in 1902, HIDA is a leading voice on matters important to the healthcare distribution industry as well as the healthcare supply chain, as a whole. HIDA offices are located in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia and operates on a 3 days in-office, 2 days remote schedule.
HIDA is seeking a Director of Congressional Relations. The incumbent will work closely with the Vice President of Congressional Relations to create and execute advocacy strategies needed to effectively represent the members of HIDA on Capitol Hill, the Administrations, and other allied organizations. The Director plays an integral role in expanding on existing and cultivating new relationships with Congressional offices and outside organizations as well as works closely with members. This position reports to the Vice President of Congressional Relations.
Essential Responsibilities: 1. Implement the HIDA’s policy agenda on Capitol Hill through direct lobbying of key committees and other lawmakers in both chambers and parties. Work beyond committees of jurisdiction, especially with Congressional Caucuses, to form new relationships and promote the HIDA on Capitol Hill. a. Assist in the development of legislative strategies. b. Draft policy documents, one-pagers, Congressional testimony, and other materials as needed. c. Maintain current knowledge of relevant healthcare supply chain policies and proposals impacting HIDA members. d. Work with VP of Congressional Relations to ensure the team is effectively meeting and tracking departmental goals. e. Identify creative ways to execute legislative priorities and meet departmental goals. 2. Coordinate and lead activities with external organizations on legislative and policy initiatives. a. Represent the organization at external meetings. b. Leads all aspects of the HIDA PAC including responsibility for fundraising strategies and implementation. . c. Present on member webinars and at conferences throughout the year. d. Regularly oversee interactions with outside consultants and lobbyists. e. Ensure team compliance with the Lobbying Disclosure Act and file quarterly reports on behalf of the HIDA. 3. Lead all aspects of HIDA’s annual fly-in including the production of content, member preparation, and messaging.
Qualifications and Requirements: Education/Experience 1. Bachelor’s degree in political science, communications or related field. Advanced degree preferred. 2. Minimum of 7-10 combined years of government relations experience to include Capitol Hill, trade association, or lobby shop. Capitol Hill experience preferred. 3. Government affairs/policy, research/consulting, writing experience preferred. 4. Proven success overseeing and leading comparable functions teams and budgets in government affairs/policy/Capitol Hill and/or association settings.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong commitment to deadlines. 9. Writing, editing, and proofing skills for a variety of vehicles, including one-pagers, bill summaries, letters and e-mails. 10.
