Specialist, Volunteer Engagement and Member Network

The specialist of Volunteer Engagement and Member Networks provides direct support and advancement of programs and services to AWHONN’s Sections and Chapters and assists in developing and implementing volunteer recruitment and engagement strategies. Also provides direct support and management of the HUB, the online member community hosted by Higher Logic (HL).
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides support in developing and implementing the Section Development strategy.
Work in coordination with the Senior Manager, Section and Chapter Development, the AMS Team, Customer Services and Finance teams to set-up all Section and Chapter meetings and provide support with:
Preparing and distributing meeting reports
Processing vendor/sponsor invoices for the Sections using Nimble AMS
Facilitating Zoom trainings and troubleshooting
Manage the coordination and maintenance of Section development content on AWHONN’s website, Section websites, and social media pages with consultation from the Senior Manager, Section and Chapter Development.
Serve as the “first responder” to member volunteers for the Section websites. Focus areas to include, but are not limited to:
Setting up webpages and fulfilling Sections’ specialized requests
Granting and removing member webmaster access at the direction of elected leaders
Developing User Guides and training webinars as needed
Updating Section websites with universal changes as needed
Monitoring Section social media pages ensuring content is within the Code of Conduct
Provide direct support for all membership recruitment and retention efforts, including member outreach and communications.
Contribute to the Section and Chapter Leader Communication Update as needed, specifically on topics related to core responsibilities.
Assess and update Section and Chapter coordinator information based on calls, email bounce-backs, guidance from Elected Section Leaders and other sources; execute data quality and management strategy.
Manage and coordinate with the Customer Service team and approved vendors to manage Section and Chapter resource orders (name badges and business cards). To include, but are not limited to:
Using Wufoo (or other database platforms) to collect information
Sending follow up order proofs to individuals that placed orders
Placing orders using approved vendors and facilitating the shipping of items
Reconciling vendor bills and submitting for approval and processing
Volunteer Recruitment, Management and Support
Serve as the primary point of contact responsible for coordinating activities related to volunteer recruitment management and support.
Provide administrative support and management during the annual Section elections and national committee volunteer selection/appointments.
Develop and facilitate in-person and virtual Hub training for volunteer leaders and staff.
Manage the volunteer leaders’ online resources portal.
Other department administrative duties as required by business needs.
Online Community Management
Serve as the organization’s internal online community coordinator of the AWHONN Hub and support the Online Community Stakeholders group.
Monitor staff and member activity in the Hub, including directly responding to opportunities to increase engagement including cross-pollination of content, products, and services.
Serve as the “first responder” in the Hub, providing appropriate responses, and/or coordinating staff or volunteer champions to respond with a high level of responsiveness and customer service.
Train and assist Hub users, including members, volunteer leaders, and staff, in understanding functionality, sharing community management best practices, leveraging available features, and troubleshooting.
Work with the technology staff and HL to resolve any technical or usability issues promptly.
Provide weekly and monthly reports to key staff highlighting trends and engagement to be used for internal and Board Reports.
Will serve as a leader across the organization to assist staff in identifying ways to volunteer management and online engagement to meet and exceed strategic goals. Serve as a knowledgeable community and volunteer management resource for new and current staff.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years of professional experience required, preferably in a nonprofit association environment or healthcare organization. Experience with or as a volunteer is a plus.
A passion and strong understanding of component relations. An understanding of online community management practices. Experience with the Higher Logic platform is strongly preferred. 2+ years of relevant experience in both areas preferred.
An understanding of association management is required. Knowledge of or experiences with nursing, specifically perinatal, obstetric, or neonatal specialty nursing preferred.
Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service orientation, technical skills and troubleshooting abilities, and willingness and ability to work in a team environment.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical individuals.
Strong teamwork, collaboration, and multi-tasking skills with the ability to meet time-sensitive goals.
Ability to work with volunteer leaders and committees, including recruitment and training.
Strong organizational and project management skills, including demonstrated ability to juggle multiple priorities and tasks, and ability to administer approved budgets.
The ability to work independently, but comfortable seeking guidance when needed.
Excellent grasp of technology – including Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); and the ability to learn new software, as well as familiarity with various social networking tools. Experience with Nimble Association Management Software preferred.

This position is located in Washington, DC, and within walking distance of Metro rail and major bus lines. AWHONN offers a flexible, hybrid work environment. Effective April 11, 2022, employees located within the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area are expected to work onsite a minimum of one (1) day per week to foster our collaborative culture and support cross-functional interaction.
