About the Role:
We are looking for an enthusiastic, resourceful, and outgoing Specialist to join our team. In this position you will help educate our community, promote awareness for safe and sustainable water sources and work closely with stakeholders to create programs for our future workforce. This role will help innovate the ISAWWA program offerings, connect with our communities and align our strategic priorities to recruit the next generation of water and wastewater leaders.

The Illinois Section of the American Water Works Association aka ISAWWA is an Illinois based nonprofit association. We provide resources for the advocacy of safe and sustainable water through enriching memberships, mentoring, and increasing public awareness. Your Typical Day:
Innovate our outreach programs.
Serve as the staff lead for our workforce development initiatives and programs. Engage with key stakeholders and evaluate the sector’s needs for workforce development. Review existing programs and evaluate how our members’ can utilize and benefit from the programs.
Curate and create total water education curriculum.
Connect with Illinois associations and groups to advance our collaborations.
Manage the relationships and programmatic efforts for student chapters.
Work internally to share key details for marketing the outreach programs.
Coordinate the Section’s awards efforts, mentoring and scholarship program.
Manage the Section’s safety programs.
Work closely with volunteer leaders to take their events from concept to execution.
Seek grant opportunities and work with the executive director to write proposals and execute grant deliverables.
Host events to fundraise for scholarship funds.
Curate content for our website, publications and social media on workforce development and total water education.
Assist volunteer leaders with management of assigned committees.
Ability to travel throughout the state and to the Organization’s annual conference and education events.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Your Awesome Skills:

Principles and practices of education

Water and/or wastewater industry knowledge a plus but not required

Interpersonal, verbal, and written communication for interaction with others.
ABILITY to:
Prepare and analyze comprehensive reports and carry out assigned projects to their completion.
Demonstrate good customer service skills with the ability to problem solve.
Utilize Microsoft Office Suite applications such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel in addition to other related software.
Handle confidential material and information in an ethical and professional manner.
Effectively communicate with, present information to, and respond to questions.
Maintain a professional attitude and maintain punctuality and consistent attendance with advance notification of absences.
Perform detailed work accurately and on time and initiate and maintain necessary follow-up.
Work collaboratively with staff.
Work hours beyond the regularly scheduled work day when needed.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in education and/or training coordination
Experience in public speaking.
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Education, Liberal Arts or similar major.
Physical and Environmental Demands:
ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS including:
Working in an office environment with light to moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances.
Some travel within the state. Each year this position will travel to the organization’s annual conference and other association meetings. Travel will be no more than 20% of the employee’s time.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS including:
Sedentary office work although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required.
Finger and hand dexterity to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator, and to operate standard office equipment.
Mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment.
Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, make color distinctions, and have normal depth perception; ability to smell fumes like odorous gas; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone.
Occasionally bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, and pulling drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to thirty (30) pounds.
