Education and Training, Meetings/Expositions/Events, Project Management/Program Development
Scope: The Director of Safety, Education, and Training serves as the staff lead and project manager for all NUCA safety, education, and training benefits related to the associations mission to providing world class safety best-practices and training to the utility construction industry. This position proactively evaluates, plans, directs, and implements NUCA’s safety and risk management activities to inform, educate, and assist members with their safety and health programs.
This position also manages the educational tools to enhance learning effectiveness, experience, and reach. They identify learning needs of the industry member and create clear, actionable plans that promote greater community engagement and demonstrate the full value of the NUCA safety and training programs.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage new and existing projects/programs related to safety and training to include in-person events and online to train managers and employees in the industry. • Manage new and existing projects/programs related to educational learning and development to include in-person and online based on member needs and preferences. • Partner effectively with stakeholders (internal staff, chapter leadership, members, and partners) to prepare, study, analyze, and present utility industry incidents and causes. • Review current safety, training, and education vendor status and competitive pricing to make recommendations for future relationships and member resources. • Apply learning theories, effective instructional design, and technology practices into the design and development of in-person and online programs. • Implement digital instructional technologies (e.g., e-learning) to increase accessibility. • Serve as staff liaison to NUCA’s Safety and Education Committees collaborating to reach identified association strategic goals. • Assist in the development of promotional and marketing materials for programs and department products. • Remain current with federal safety regulations. Keep membership advised of new or revised regulations and prepare and submit comments as needed. • Plan and implement safety policies, procedures, and guidelines for compliance with federal regulations and increase public awareness of the value of core utility infrastructure. • Represent, participate, and prepare comments to OSHA, CGA, CISC, NCCER and other organizations about new and revised regulations and best practices. • Assist chapters with safety and educational activities.
Preferred Background Requirements:
Preferred bachelor’s degree in safety management, occupational health, engineering, or another related field.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) preferred but not required. • Preferred 10 years of experience in association management.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Strong project management skills with ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously, effectively prioritize, and coordinate with multiple external suppliers to keep projects on schedule is a must. • Ability to navigate situations involving multiple stakeholders, with the patience, maturity, and negotiating skills to resolve problems. • Ability to self-manage, prioritize, get things done, and drive results. • Excellent technical and database skills. • Highly detail-oriented, excellent technical and database management skills. • Strong internal and external communication skills, proficient in communicating with staff, board members, association members, marketing suppliers, media, and partners. • Collaborative team player and enjoys working as part of team to accomplish the mission. • Domestic travel: 20% annually.
