POSITION OBJECTIVE:Develop advocacy programs and engage members in grassroots advocacy tactics and Farm Bureau’s policy development process.
REPORTS TO: Managing Director, Advocacy & Political Affairs
LOCATION: Washington, DC
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct grassroots and grasstops advocacy campaigns including developing digital advocacy alerts and updates, talking points and supporting materials and strategies for advancing policy priorities.
Execute digital grassroots engagements and evaluate engagement analytics to maximize open and action rates and assess their impact on campaign goals and policy priorities.
Develop, post and moderate grassroots content across AFBF digital advocacy communication channels.
Prepare and conduct advocacy training programs to assist state Farm Bureaus in building effective advocacy programs, training advocates and engagement on policy priorities.
Collaborate in developing and implementing Farm Bureau Advocacy activities, including the engagement website, trainings and consultations with state Farm Bureaus.
Develop, prepare and present FB Advocacy training programs that will help state Farm Bureaus increase their overall effectiveness in grassroots advocacy and political affairs activities. This includes presentations during state Farm Bureau visits, national conferences, AFBF leadership committee meetings and as needed for other groups.
Provide leadership and co-coordinate the AFBF Advocacy Conference.
Collaborate in planning, preparing, and marketing conferences with a grassroots advocacy or policy development track, including New Employee Orientation/Grassroots Engagement Training and others.
Collaborate in the planning and implementation of the annual voting delegate session. Coordinate the processors stage during the session. Assist with creating and editing materials related to the AFBF policy book and distribute materials to states.
Communicate with AFBF staff and state Farm Bureau staff with respect to grassroots advocacy and policy implementation. Operate as a team member of the Public Affairs Department.
EDUCATION OR TRAINING REQUIRED:
Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Minimum 5 years’ experience with grassroots advocacy or policy implementation programs
Strong communication skills
Experience with public speaking and delivering effective presentations
Knowledge of Phone2Action advocacy platform
Knowledge of Agriculture
Farm Bureau or trade association experience
U.S. travel required approximately 20-30% of the time.
