ASTRO, the American Society for Radiation Oncology, is seeking an experienced and versatile Marketing Manager to provide marketing leadership and project management to ensure effective marketing of ASTRO events and programs. Under the direction of the VP, Member Relations and Communications, the position is responsible for the development of multi-channel marketing strategies, plans and budgets and their implementation—to ensure organizational key results in meetings attendance, product sales and revenue are met.
The position relies heavily on sustaining strong relationships between the marketing team and staff members from other ASTRO teams. The ideal candidate has experience collaborating with stakeholders and developing and executing marketing campaigns. He/she will be comfortable employing the latest marketing tools to conduct day-to-day marketing activities, as well as developing long-term strategy, thriving with tight deadlines and changing needs.
NOTE: The position is DC area-based and currently a work-from-home position due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At this time, there is an option to work from our HQ offices in Arlington, VA (Crystal City) on a voluntary basis. After ASTRO’s offices fully re-open (target mid-2021), all staff will be expected to return to the offices on a full-time basis, with the opportunity to telework up to two days/week.
Major responsibilities and duties:
Establish positioning, identify target markets and develop comprehensive marketing plans to promote all ASTRO meetings, products and services to include print, digital, web and social media outreach. Gather audience and market insights to inform outreach strategies and increase customer conversions.
Support organization key results by leading the execution of multi-channel marketing campaigns, leveraging internal support and driving collaboration.
Develop marketing budgets for ASTRO Annual Meeting, specialty meetings and other products and services.
Support ASTRO’s brand strategy through accurate and consistent application of branding and adherence to style guidelines.
Assess campaign performance through the collection and analysis of defined metrics and communicates promotion results.
Work in partnership with the ASTRO design team to develop creative assets and guide creative direction.
Collaborate with social media team to expand and coordinate ASTRO’s use of social media as a marketing tool.
Manage staff and operations of ASTRO’s exhibit booths at ASTRO and other society meetings.
Pursue outside opportunities to promote ASTRO brand to patients and the public.
Work with program and steering committee volunteers to develop appropriate targeted marketing messages and themes.
Work with specialty meeting co-sponsor organizations to promote ASTRO’s multidisciplinary meetings and target marketing messages appropriately.

Successful candidates will have:
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in marketing or communication preferred or equivalent work experience.
Five (5) + years of work experience in a marketing-related position.
Experience promoting meetings, conferences, virtual events and membership products and services.
Proven experience developing multi-channel marketing plans, campaigns and budgets.
Proven experience with digital marketing including marketing automation, a/b testing and retargeting; social media; and CRM tools.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent promotional writing, editing, and proofreading skills for print, digital, web and social media.
Must have a team-based approach to planning, display resourcefulness, ability to work collaboratively across the department to achieve desired results.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills in order to interact effectively with contacts inside and outside the association, particularly with key stakeholders
Must have outstanding interpersonal skills, shows understanding, collegiality, courtesy, tact, empathy, cooperation, concern to others; relates well to different people from varied backgrounds and different situations (such as internal staff, volunteers, physicians, and other external entities). Interested in technology, Innovative and dynamic.
Must excel in organization and planning: able to organize multiple tasks and develop realistic actions plans while being sensitive to time constraints and resource availability.
Must be results-orientated: able to work at a fast pace, determine priorities and meet critical deadlines.
Must excel in decision-making and problem solving, able to take action in solving problems while exhibiting judgment and a realistic understanding of issues.
Must be able to use critical thinking to further strategic goals.
Previous management and supervisory experience a plus.
