Working under the strategic direction of the Memphis Bar Association (MBA) board, the MBA Executive Director provides leadership and strategic vision for the Memphis Bar Association. This role is responsible for leading 4 direct reports to administer and provides services for over 3,000 MBA members. The Executive Director is responsible for all business, financial, and operational affairs of the MBA, including setting and executing near-and long-term strategic goals, identify opportunities for organizational improvement and making recommendations to improve service offerings of the organization. This role understands the importance of MBA to the Memphis community and must effectively collaborate with members, the board, and key external partners to ensure MBA success in fulfilling its mission.
Responsibilities:
Plans, directs and monitors the activities of the Memphis Bar Association and Memphis Bar Foundation to ensure both organizations are fulfilling their Mission, Vision and Values
Leads the development of MBA strategic priorities in accordance with the board, and establishes goals, financial and operational expectations, execution plans and outcomes to ensure MBA achieves desired results.
Provides leadership to MBA staff to promote a collaborative and productive environment that is working toward common strategic goals.
Determines and makes recommendations regarding needs for operations, including recommendations to the board regarding resources, actions or terminations.
Reviews and approves all proposed MBA programs, events and initiatives developed by staff to ensure that items are financially sound and consistent with strategic goals and the mission of the organization.
Serves as the primary representative of MBA to other internal and external entities, agencies, and organizations
Provides administrative oversight in managing the financial resources. Oversees and enforces accounting and financial management policies and ensures compliance.
Develops and manages all budgets to ensure cost-effective operations.
Develops and implements action plans to ensure costs stay within acceptable financial ranges
Analyzes trends legal associations, membership behavior and feedback, and best practices for improvement opportunities to provide superior membership services for the Memphis Bar Association
Develop clear and proactive plans that are driven by maximizing membership value and service quality.
Ensure all work is performed as planned and scheduled with appropriate resources.
Collaborate well with other staff members through recognition, mentoring, and constructive feed back with the goal of developing effective working relationships
Demonstrate influence and effective feedback skills for improvement and motivation of self and others.
Basic Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of managerial experience.
In depth knowledge on non-profit management

The MBA is a professional organization for attorneys in Memphis and the surrounding Midsouth area. We seek to provide a place for lawyers to grow, connect and serve. We have networking and leadership opportunities for members and offer accredited online and in-person CLE events, for all lawyers.
We also promote the values of the profession and work with local organizations and media. Each year we participate in pro bono activities like the Saturday Legal Clinic and offer special events throughout the year to celebrate the hard work and dedication of lawyers.
