Organizational Responsibilities: The Technical Divisions Manager collaborates with SWANA staff to increase membership engagement among SWANA’s seven technical divisions and throughout the Association. This individual also plays a primary role in obtaining and coordinating Technical Division input to SWANA event programming.
Reports to: Director of Membership
Duties:
Growth, Retention and Promotion
Has primary responsibility to work with the Membership and Marketing Departments to develop outreach campaigns to promote Technical Division participation
Identifies and evaluates outreach channels and uses them effectively as a benefit for division members
Maintains database of TD leaders and key volunteers.
Analyzes Technical Division subscription data in the context of broader Membership data to identify avenues for growth, barriers to retention and to develop appropriate campaigns, messaging, and Technical Division work plans
Responds to member and customer questions about Technical Divisions and SWANA
Manages SWANA’s Technical Divisions
Serves as the primary staff liaison and coordinator for SWANA’s Technical Divisions
Develops and leads implementation of SWANA’s annual program plan and budget for the Technical Divisions
Participates in the development of Technical Division annual work plans that are consistent with SWANA’s overall strategic plan and the annual program plan and budget
For the purpose of facilitating communication and flow of information, interests, and concerns among the individual Technical Divisions, across all Technical Divisions, and between Technical Divisions and SWANA:
Schedules and participates in meetings and calls with the leadership of all Technical Divisions and with each Technical Division individually. This will include at a minimum:
Quarterly calls with each Division to develop and review progress on the work plans
Semi-annual calls with the Technical Division Leaders group
Schedules and participates in face-to-face meetings of Technical Division members held in conjunction with SWANA events
Develops publications and guidance documents as appropriate
Reviews, responds to questions, and works to ensure consistency of technical divisions across SWANA technical policies and advocacy positions
Coordinates with SWANA staff assigned to governance tasks:
To organize and conduct Division elections
To participate as needed in the development of technical policies and the coordination of technical division working groups
Coordinates Technical Division awards programs
Content Creation
Creates original content for SWANA products such as I Am SWANA Newsletter, website, and blogs
Creates and edits Technical Division publications, including participation in the development of technical policies, white papers, and guidance documents
Becomes familiar with technical resources such as the SWANA’s Applied Research Foundation, EPA, EREF and other organizations to incorporate material into technical programming and communications as appropriate
Works with SWANA staff including but not limited to Executive Staff, the ARF Director and the Senior Manager for Advocacy & Safety on the development of new technical content.
Event Programming Responsibilities
Works with conference teams as assigned, to:
Coordinate with Technical Division leaders and committee to identify topics, speakers, and moderators for all events
Facilitate conference calls with selected moderators and speakers to organize sessions with a focus on audience engagement
Advocate for the needs of Technical Divisions during conference preparation and scheduling
Other duties as assigned either during conference preparation or on-site

Required Qualifications and Skills:
Three to five years’ experience in some aspect of integrated solid waste management
Bachelor’s degree
Desired Qualifications and Capabilities:
Three to five years’ experience in some combination of component or membership management or project management
Association experience as a staff member or an active member of an association
Current proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Proficiency or ability to become proficient in using SWANA’s association-management system (AMS) database software, iMIS
Proficiency or ability to become proficient in in using HubSpot
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Able to maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff, members, customers, and partners
Excellent organizational, administrative, and time-management skills
Comfortable working in cross-functional teams
