The Grassroots Strategist will be responsible for tracking state legislation on ACA public policy priorities and coordinating grassroots advocacy actions in the states. This position will also coordinate national, regional, and branch advocacy efforts, including coordinating field staff and volunteer leadership in intensive direct outreach.
In addition to the below list of responsibilities, the Grassroots Strategist will carry out assigned tasks that are consistent with the general responsibilities of this position.
Serve as an ACA Brand Ambassador.
In collaboration with Brand & Engagement, strategize on positioning ACA Social Media channels for impact with elected officials at the local, state, and federal level. Submit appropriate, compelling and timely posts to the ACA Social Media platforms as needed – on average weekly, this includes photos, and videos.
Blog and collaborate on compelling counselor focused content with the Brand & Engagement team to educate ACA members, and stakeholders. This includes e-mail campaigns, fact sheets, etc.
Manage the grassroots strategy and grow the ACA network of grassroots advocates throughout the country.
Conduct annual grassroots training for ACA staff members and ACA membership, with support of the ACA Federal and State teams.
Keep constituents, and stakeholder informed on advocacy efforts through appropriate communications vehicles, including action alerts, and advocacy related web-content.
Create and manage relevant content for podcast, and videos.
Serve as project coordinator for federal and state advocacy days. Responsible for assisting the leads to organize all activities related to these events.
Develop and promote grassroots meetings, video town halls and legislative engagements.
Work with Director of Public Policy and Intergovernmental Affairs and the Brand & Engagement team to set strategic goals for advocate growth and engagement.
Monitor and respond to advocates and constituents on social media platforms regarding legislative issues.
Coordinate with states to create grassroots advocacy calendar, where grassroots manager will accompany ACA Team Member to states for legislative meetings, presentations, participating in hearing and briefings.
Monitor Legislative Activity and report back to team. This includes drafting bill synopsis, and tracking the legislative calendar.
Identify additional opportunities that advance the Advocacy work of ACA.
Monitor daily news and report upcoming issues.
Assist team on the coordination of all Advocacy Campaigns.
Identify, recruit, and engage individuals and groups, activist networks, and individuals to be part of ACA’s advocacy efforts
Conduct extensive outreach (members, supporters, and allies), build relationships with key ACA leaders, and build and support robust strategic volunteer activist networks that help drive action to advance ACA’s public policy objectives.
Design and implement engagement and mobilization strategies and tactics that will advance the ACA public policy agenda
Build capacity for effective organizing and advocacy among members and allies.
Provide organizing support to strategic local and state campaigns through base-building, coaching, and facilitating stronger collaboration between ACA and our grassroots partners.
Write, produce, and edit engagement and mobilization material, such as action kits, magazine articles, blogs, social media and web content, and how-to materials on specific tactics or issues.
Track, analyze, report on and assess engagement strategies using database and technology to prioritize constituencies & geographies, piloting, and testing new ways to engage; develop appropriate metrics for evaluating the effectiveness of our campaigns, volunteer opportunities, and engagement initiatives.

Bachelor’s Degree required
Experience working in a Congressional, State, or City/County Council Officer preferred. (Word is Office not Officer)
Experience in marketing, communications, or community outreach.
Knowledge of state and federal political process.
Knowledge of public policy issues important to professional counselors, their clients, and their students, or the willingness to learn.
Demonstrated superior written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to coordinate members for advocacy efforts and work with a diverse group of constituents.
Organized, flexible, and prompt with great attention to detail.
Capability of working with minimum supervision as well as being a team player.
Able to multi-task and problem-solve, as well as prioritize work in a faced pace environment.
Proficiency in office software systems, and database management (Excel) – Microsoft Office suite.
Able to travel to states as needed.
Event management experience for advocacy days a plus.
Interest in the field of counseling and willingness to understand legislative issues important to the field.
Knowledge of action alert, and tracking systems, Voter Voice and Quorum, and willingness to learn new systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of social media platforms, how to maximize boost.
Proficiency in creating copy and posting to social media channels a plus.
At least five years of experience planning and winning mobilization initiatives or campaigns. Deep commitment to organizational mission.
Accomplished strategist, with ability to link organizing and campaigning tactics, to engage and mobilize for advocacy.
Experienced in creating and implementing strategies, with ability to develop, innovate, and drive tactics.
Demonstrated significant experience in grassroots organizing. Able to tailor engagement methods to experience level of different constituencies.
Ability to travel up to 25% of time.
