The American Chemistry Council (ACC), a national trade association representing the world’s leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for a Managing Director for its Sustainability and Market Outreach Department. ACC represents its members on public policy issues; coordinates the industry’s research and testing programs; and administers Responsible Care®, the industry’s environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative.
The position is responsible for leading and managing the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) Responsible Care® program, the chemical industry’s world class environment, health and safety initiative. Working closely with the Executive Vice President and other members of ACC’s senior leadership team, this position will develop strategies to enhance the value of Responsible Care to ACC members and Responsible Care Partner companies and oversee the direction and execution of the key elements of the Responsible Care program (i.e., management systems certification, security, performance measures, and oversight functions). This position will support the ACC board of directors committee on Responsible Care, lead member company committees and workgroups and manage Responsible Care staff and consultants. The position reports directly to the Executive Vice President, Communications, Sustainability and Market Outreach.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in scientific, engineering, business or public policy related field; 15 years relevant professional level experience and experience or significant familiarity with industry environment, health and safety performance programs. Ability to design and implement strategy, direction and action plans, strong leadership, written and oral communications skills, as well as the ability to give internal and public presentations and knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes on both federal and state levels are a must. Corporate or trade association experience in a government-related industry and demonstrated knowledge of the chemical industry are preferred.
