The Monitoring Association (TMA), an entrepreneurial small-staff Tysons Corner-based trade association representing the professional security monitoring industry, seeks an experienced membership professional with a marketing mindset to lead our membership function.
We are a small team of dedicated professionals working to support a technology-centric, public-safety-connected industry.
The Director of Membership and Programs is responsible for developing and executing membership recruitment, retention and engagement plans, as well as interacting with our members about their benefits, networking opportunities, and related programs.
S/he is the primary sales agent for association membership, charged with cultivating new and maintaining existing relationships, and with supporting business development efforts through relationships with sponsors and partner groups. Position is responsible for the collection of dues and managing the Membership budget.
How will you spend your time?
Effectively articulating our value proposition – in other words, selling the association to prospective and current members!
Collaborating with the Executive Director, other staff, and volunteers on overall membership recruitment and retention strategy, including attaining goals set for continued dues growth
Managing the full membership life-cycle from prospecting to retention and increased engagement
Developing and managing membership campaigns and programs that serve our members in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications Manager.
Tracking and analyzing membership activity and trends in the Association and adapting strategy as needed.
Serving as the staff liaison to assigned committees and task forces.
Ensuring accurate membership records are maintained in our CRM and accurate processing of annual dues billing resulting in a timely collection of dues.
Performing other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate:
Enjoys working in a small, congenial, fast-paced setting where everyone “pitches in” at all levels and where expectations are high.
Has a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, marketing, or a related field.
Has a minimum of 5 years of experience and a documented track record in a membership or sales role, preferably in a trade association or in a professional society.
Has a broad understanding of the association environment and of effective membership practices, pursues professional development, and practices association best-practices.
Has experience with a CRM (preferably ABILA).
Possesses the ability to quickly develop a fundamental understanding of the industry and our programs.
Has superlative interpersonal skills, is customer-focused, enjoys talking to people (as opposed to engaging over email), is a good listener, and is adept at building relationships with members, partners, staff, sponsors and other stakeholders.
Can confidently and assertively advance membership goals.
Excels in writing and in language and grammatical skills and is detail-oriented.
Has a strong work ethic and is comfortable working with minimal supervision.
Exercises sound judgment/problem solving when issues arise.
Is able to do a moderate amount of travel to association events and trade shows.
